The Now

This powerful message challenges us to examine our relationship with money during tax season, reminding us that Jesus spoke about finances more than almost any other topic. Drawing from Matthew 6 and multiple passages throughout Scripture, we're confronted with a fundamental truth: money is a competing god vying for our devotion. The sermon walks us through five core teachings that transform how we view our finances. First, we must recognize that money competes for our worship. Second, we need wisdom in managing both our money and time. Third, God knows exactly what we need and will provide it. Fourth, and perhaps most revolutionary, everything we have belongs to God - our possessions, our families, even ourselves. Finally, we are called to be faithful managers of what God has entrusted to us. The American Dream, with its emphasis on individual success and self-reliance, stands in stark contrast to God's kingdom way. We're challenged to let God transform our American mindset into a kingdom mindset, understanding that we are Christians first who happen to be Americans. This isn't about legalism or guilt, but about freedom - the freedom that comes from living generously, wisely, and purposefully for God's mission rather than being enslaved to debt and the pursuit of more.
